After a rewarding 15-year career as a southern California elementary school teacher specializing in math, Heather changed careers in 2006 for real estate. She and her husband moved to Colorado, where she received her real estate license. "It was great, because it combined the personal touch with the analytical, data side," she notes.

In 2007, after their child was born, the couple moved back to southern California—yet six months later moved to Austin for her husband David's new job.
